MEALBENCH HELP

Here for every
part of your kitchen.

Find your way around recipes, plans, groceries, cooking, and everything you make your own.

YOUR RECIPE LIBRARY

Recipes, all in one place.

How do I add or edit a recipe?

Open All Recipes and choose Add Recipe (the + button on iPhone). Enter the recipe’s title, ingredients, directions, and any details you want to keep. To change one you already have, open it and choose Edit Recipe. You can add photos to a recipe in the editor.

How do I find a recipe in a large library?

Use the search field in All Recipes. You can also sort and filter the library to narrow what you see, then open a recipe from the card or list view. If nothing appears, clear the search and active filters to see the full library again.

Can I mark favorites or keep a cooked badge?

Yes. Use the heart on a recipe to add it to Favorites. To remove a Cooked badge, open the recipe’s menu and choose Unmark as Cooked.

The Cooked badge came back. What should I do?

If two devices changed the same recipe before they finished syncing, the badge can reappear. Once both devices have caught up, choose Unmark as Cooked again. It should then stay off.

Can I make a variation without changing the original?

Yes. Open the recipe’s More menu, choose Duplicate Recipe…, give the copy a name, then edit it. Your original recipe remains available.

MAKE IT YOURS

Collections.

How do I organize recipes into collections?

Open Collections to make a collection for a theme, occasion, or person. Add recipes to it from the collection or a recipe’s actions. A recipe can be part of more than one collection without making another copy of it.

Can I change the order of recipes in a collection?

Yes. Open the collection and arrange its recipes in the order that makes sense to you. You can also rename the collection or change its description.

YOUR WEEK

Meal planning.

How do I plan a week of meals?

Open Meal Plans, choose a day and meal, then pick a recipe from your library. You can also add a quick meal such as leftovers without creating a recipe. Move a planned meal if your week changes.

Can I reuse a meal plan?

Yes. Save a week as a named plan, then use that plan for another week. Applying a saved plan adds its meals to what is already there; it does not clear the destination week. Review the week first if you want a fresh start.

Can I make groceries from the week I planned?

Yes. In the weekly planner, choose Add to Groceries to add ingredients from the planned recipes to your grocery list. A quick meal without a recipe has no recipe ingredients to add.

FROM PLAN TO PANTRY

Groceries & Reminders.

How do I build and use a grocery list?

Open Groceries to add items yourself, or add ingredients from a recipe or your planned week. Check items off as you shop. You can edit and organize the list in the app.

How do I send groceries to Apple Reminders?

In Groceries, open the list actions menu and choose Send to Apple Reminders…. Mealbench sends unchecked items. Follow the permission and list prompts on your device. This sends items to Reminders; it is not a live two-way sync.

Will sending to Reminders make duplicates?

Mealbench tries to recognize items it already sent. Some Reminders lists do not keep the information needed for that check, and a partial send may be hard to confirm. If Mealbench says the result is unconfirmed, open Reminders and check the list before sending again.

IN THE KITCHEN

Cooking, timers & exports.

How do I start cooking a recipe?

Open a recipe and choose Start Cooking. Cook Mode presents the ingredients and directions as you work. You can mark ingredients and steps as you go, and adjust the serving scale for that cooking session.

How do I set a kitchen timer?

Choose Timer from a recipe or open Kitchen Timer in the app. Set a duration, give it a name if you like, and start it. You can save a timer to use again.

Can I print or export my recipes?

Yes. Open a recipe to print or export it. Export formats include PDF, HTML, and Markdown. In All Recipes, select several recipes to export them together. On Mac, printing is also available from the File menu.

ACROSS YOUR DEVICES

iCloud & your library.

Where are my recipes kept?

Mealbench keeps your library on your devices and uses your own iCloud account to carry changes between them. You can use the app without a network connection; changes made on one device reach your others after they connect and sync. Optional assistant connections have an additional server copy; see how assistant sharing works.

Why is a change on my Mac missing from my iPhone?

Open Mealbench on the device where you made the change and let it finish syncing. Then open Mealbench on your other device with an internet connection. iCloud may take longer to carry a change to a device that has not been opened recently. If the change came from ChatGPT or Claude, first check whether Mealbench applied the request.

Do I need a separate Mealbench website account?

No. The native app uses your Apple devices and iCloud for your library. Connecting ChatGPT or Claude is optional and has its own setup.

SIMPLE OWNERSHIP

Purchases & access.

Is Mealbench a subscription?

No. The full version for Mac and the full version for iPhone/iPad are separate, one-time purchases. See pricing for the current amounts.

Does buying on iPhone unlock the Mac version?

No. The Mac and iPhone/iPad versions have separate purchases. Your recipes can still sync between devices through your iCloud account.

I bought the full version, but the app does not show it. What can I do?

Open Settings → Purchase and choose Restore Purchases. Make sure you are using the Apple Account that made the purchase and that the device can reach the App Store. If it still is not recognized, contact support and include your device and app version. Please do not send payment details.

Can I still read and export recipes without buying?

Yes. Your library remains readable and cookable, and exporting your recipes is available without a purchase. See pricing for the current offer.

OPTIONAL CONNECTION

ChatGPT & Claude.

Can I use Mealbench without an assistant?

Absolutely. All of the recipe, collection, planning, grocery, cooking, and export features above work in the native app. ChatGPT and Claude are optional connections.

Where do I set up ChatGPT or Claude?

Use the step-by-step connection guide. For capabilities, queued changes, troubleshooting, and what is shared, see Help with connected cooking.
