THE CONNECTION GUIDE
Your recipes.
Meet your assistant.
Bring your Mealbench collection into ChatGPT or Claude. Find a favorite, save a new idea, or give a recipe its finishing touch.
Let’s get connectedFour steps. Your choice of assistant.
Your recipes, part of the conversation.
Have Mealbench open on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and sign in to your ChatGPT or Claude account. Custom connections must be available for your account or workspace.
01 / IN MEALBENCH
It starts with a little code.
Open Mealbench and head to Settings → Connect. Choose ChatGPT or Claude, then select Connect.
On iPhone & iPad
From Recipes, tap ⋯, then Settings.
On Mac
In the menu bar, choose Mealbench → Settings…
Select Copy in Mealbench and keep that screen open while you continue.
Codes work once and expire after a few minutes. If yours expires while you’re setting up, select Back, then Connect in Mealbench to get a fresh one.
02 / IN YOUR ASSISTANT
Make room for Mealbench.
Add a custom connection in ChatGPT or Claude using these details. Both assistants use the same address.
Add to ChatGPT
- Open ChatGPT in your browser. In Settings → Security and login, enable Developer mode if it is required for your account.
- Open Plugins and select the + button to add a connection.
- Name it Mealbench. For the description, you can use “Find, save, and update my Mealbench recipes.” Enter the connector URL above as the public MCP server address.
- Create the connection and follow the sign-in prompt. Continue with step 3 below when the Mealbench page opens.
Some accounts show Apps → Create instead, with Developer mode under Apps → Advanced settings. Availability and permissions depend on your account and workspace.
ChatGPT’s current setup instructions ↗Add to Claude
- Open Claude and go to Customize → Connectors.
- Select +, then Add custom connector.
- Enter Mealbench as the name and paste the connector URL above.
- Select Add, then Connect when prompted. Continue with step 3 below when the Mealbench page opens.
On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an owner may need to add Mealbench first. You can then find it under Connectors and connect your own account.
Claude’s current setup instructions ↗03 / IN YOUR BROWSER
A quick introduction.
Your assistant opens the Connect Mealbench page. Paste your code into Code from Mealbench, then choose Continue.
The page changes to Approve this in Mealbench and displays a number. Keep it handy for the next step.
Your code belongs on the Mealbench sign-in page. Don’t paste it into a ChatGPT or Claude conversation or into this guide.
04 / BACK IN MEALBENCH
Match the number.
Make the connection.
Return to Mealbench. You’ll see ChatGPT wants to connect or Claude wants to connect, along with a number.
If the numbers match and this is the connection you started, select Approve. The browser finishes on its own and returns you to your assistant.
Don’t recognize the request, or the numbers don’t match? Select Don’t approve.
YOU’RE CONNECTED
Now, what sounds good?
In Mealbench, Settings → Connect now shows Connected next to your assistant. Start a conversation with Mealbench enabled and try one of these.
Save this recipe to Mealbench.
Add this photo to my banana bread recipe.
In ChatGPT, select Mealbench from the conversation’s tools or plugins. In Claude, use + → Connectors to enable it for the conversation.
ALWAYS YOUR CHOICE
Connected.
Still yours.
Once per iCloud account.
Your iPhone, iPad, and Mac share one Mealbench library when they use the same iCloud account. You only need to connect each assistant once.
Keep your code to yourself.
Don’t share it in a conversation, shared project, or screen share. It’s part of granting access to your recipes. Only approve a connection you started.
Your app applies every change.
The assistant sends requests; your Mealbench app applies them when it is open. A server copy published from your device lets the assistant search and read your library. How your data is shared ↗
Disconnect whenever you like.
In Mealbench, open Settings → Connect and select Disconnect beside the assistant. Your recipes stay in Mealbench. After disconnecting your last assistant, you can delete the server copy from this screen.
These connections are optional. ChatGPT and Claude have their own account requirements, privacy policies, and possible fees.
“This link has already been used.”
Each sign-in link works once. Open the Mealbench connection in ChatGPT or Claude and connect again to start a fresh link. Then get a new code in Mealbench.
My code didn’t work.
Codes expire after a few minutes and can only be used once. In Mealbench, select Back, then Connect to get a new code. Enter it on the Mealbench sign-in page right away.
The request expired or timed out.
Start the connection again from your assistant, then approve it in Mealbench within a few minutes.
I can’t find the custom connection option.
The menus can differ by account and app version. Check the official instructions linked in step 2. Your plan must support custom connections, and a workspace administrator may need to enable them.
